HR Operational Review

A large HR division in a branch of government was experiencing significant delays and inability to manage the growing responsibilities of a changing work environment. After a thorough study of the operations, we provided a detailed explanation of root causes for challenges, potential solutions, and recommendations for designing a modern HR operation. When implemented these recommendations result in an efficient and effective HR that is a partner for all other departments. Specifically, we developed steps for:

  • Removal of all unnecessary steps within processes
  • Implementing technology and AI to allow human talent to be utilized where most needed
  • Removing manual process and paper
  • Re-skilling the workforce so they can successfully work within a tech heavy environment
  • Developing a DEI, well-being, and employee engagement programs for recruitment and retention

Police Department

The goal was for us to evaluate the operational adequacy of a small police department and provide recommendations for general process improvement including community relations and relationship building. We identified several areas of improvement, including governance and communication, and developed step-by-step solutions for all.

Parking and Transportation Services

The president of a large southern California university requested a holistic review of the department's operations. This included the management of staff, parking lots and structures, shuttles and other vehicles, maintenance and campus events. After the study, we developed a plan to revamp the department by outlining a pathway:

  • strategic planning- describing what the department should look like in 10 years in accordance to the campus vision, values and master plan
  •  an impactful rideshare and sustainable transportation program
  • an efficient and effective process for issuing parking permits and citation processing

Sustainable Food Initiative

A large university was interested in developing a dining program centered on sustainably produced food.  We developed an all-inclusive program that focused on:

  •  student well-being
  • providing more nutritious meals to  campus residents
  • research conducted within the dining services field, changing trends and preferences among consumers, and environmental challenges affecting food production
  • outlining potential partnerships, supply-chain opportunities, process improvement, menu availability, cost and pricing, education and other aspects.

Disability Programs

A public agency that provides disability services requested a review of their operations, including a study of their data, budget, general management and success of the services provided. After a thorough study of the operation, we developed:

  • an efficient budgeting process
  • tracking techniques for accommodation costs for accurate cost projections
  • data collection strategy
  • operational process that eliminated unnecessary steps
  • client satisfaction survey

Extended Education Self-Support Operation

We were asked to review the entire department for operational efficiency, effectiveness, and organization. This included assessing and providing opportunities to improve business management, organizational structure, collaboration, strategic planning, and preparation for the future. After a thorough study of the operation, we developed:

  • a list of opportunities to address within each department
  • what classes to provide to address concerns from hiring managers within local businesses about new hires graduating from the campus
  • data collection strategy
  • operational process that eliminated unnecessary steps
  • continuous study of changing work environment and opportunities to better prepare the incoming workforce
